MIL-53 (Al-BDC)
MIL-53 is an aluminum-based MOF built with terephthalate linkers. It is most notable for its ability to undergo structural transformation in response to molecule adsorption. As its pore dimension can adapt to the size, polarity and interaction strength of the adsorbent, it offers selective gas adsorption. The material exhibits thermal stability up to 400 °C and appears as a white powder.
Applications
- Gas Adsorption and Storage: Selective CO₂ capture
- Catalysis: Oxidation and acid-base catalysis
- Gas Separation: Preferential uptake of CO2 over N2 or CH4 and selective removal of polar molecules from gas streams
